i'm back from a grad school course week in gothenburg. all in all, it's been a good week. the course on machine learning seems very interesting, while the one on information access probably needs a bit more tweaking before it settles on a decent level. both courses end in january next year, so i still have some time to figure out what projects i'll do in order to complete them. perhaps something about learning interaction patterns between protein names in text, and something about metrics for measuring the complexity on different levels of linguistic analysis of text. dunno really. ideas are welcome:)
the picture above is from the interior of one of my grandparents' barns at their farm. gradpa recently passed away, and i visited grandma some time after that with the intent of taking some pictures of where me and my cousins played around when we were little. this is one of the scenes that were forbidden fruit; a lot of exciting dangerous stuff lying around. resistence is futile:) childhood came tumbling down on me while wandering around with my camera. i really miss grandpa...
i took the photo on tri-x, using my nikon f80 with a 50/1.8. and i recently experimented with various ways of scanning b/w negs with my minolta scan dual III. i think i managed pretty well, but there's still room for improvements... as always.
