i'm slowly becoming a film consumer. mind the word. consumer. i haven't really taken the time to watch movies since i became a dad a little over two years ago. sure, i've been to the movies like... five times since, and i've rented the occasional weekend night video, but i have certainly not kept up with what's out there. now that i've got a new gadget, which i bought solely to have the possibility to offload memory cards to a hard drive when out shooting, i can consume film while on the subway. there's about forty minutes of effective film watching time per day while commuting, which means i can see about two movies a week. yay. the gmini doesn't really lend itself to a great film experience though; the screen is really tiny, and the noise from the subway adds to it. or should i say, detracts from it. but still, i can watch movies. other than that, i must say that the gmini seem to serve its purpose, that is, i can probably fill up the 20Gb hard drive with contents from compact flash cards before the battery dies. and it plays music. a let's me preview photos, although the quality of that feature sucks big time, as does the build quality. i don't expect the gmini 400 to last longer than about a year, and once there's a proper competitor on the market, i.e., a device with a hard drive larger than 20Gb, with a memory card reader, and that is small enough to fit in my pocket, i'll go for that.
ranting, i know, but i haven't had enough coffee just yet.
