lately, i've had relevant comments on my photos but where the links that came with the words pointed to sites dubious by nature. for instance, this entry recieved a comment like "i really like how the white background makes their colors stand out", which may seem totally relevant. however, the link associated with the comment text pointed to a site having to do with drug rehabilitation. not exactly what i expected...

so, either the spambots have become a lot more "intelligent" in selecting what to say about an entry (making the comment fit the entry, eventhough it's image only), or the comments stem from people posting spam by hand. i know it's doable to write software that automatically selects between a set of candidate comments in order to find the one that fit a given blog entry the most. but if i was a spammer, i'd probably think it involved too much of an overhead to construct such software and fine tune it to whatever categories of blogs you're set after. that leaves us with the human spam bots. if that's the case, it means that someone actually finds it worth paying people to spam my site. weird.
