About your lens. My brother recently purchased a D80 with the Nikon 18-200 VR lens. That lens is so good - no its not quite "pro" glass, but for walk around every day glass, I've never seen such a good combo of versatility and sharpness. It's almost enough for me to switch from Canon to the dark side.

I have a D200 with the Nikkor 18-200 VR Lens and I love the thing and have no idea how I would live without it. It's that good.

I also purchased a Nikkor 50mm 1.8 (because it was so inexpensive) for super low light, but find that I rarely need it, unless I'm going for super shallow depth of field.

Good Luck!

I'm also looking for a zoom for daily use and I'm considering the tamron 17-50mm/2.8. It's relative cheap compared to the Nikon alternative and it gets good reviews.

In a very rare case I come across an image showing several things, and it makes me think that if all the other things around the object/person weren't there it'd still be a kick ass image.
This is one of those rare cases.

easy.
No.1 choice: Nikon 17-55/2.8
No.2 choice: Tamron 17-50/2.8 - make sure U get a good copy
No.3 choice: i often preferred fast primes on my Nikons (now Canons...) so a killer all around/drag-to-the-park lens is the Nikkor 18-70 DX. I mean, mint used for around $200 USD - how can you go wrong?

Wouldn't know what to recommend, since I'm using "the other" brand.

But I like the shot. Reminds me of my place in Belgium where I had a similar wall.

Jag kör Sigmas 18-50/2.8 EX DG. Riktigt nöjd med den . Känns robust och fin.
